 LONDON (AlertNet) - Amid frequent headlines about conflict-ridden Somalia, Afghanistan and Sudan, it is easy to overlook less well publicised emergencies in other parts the world. Yet some of these forgotten crises are likely to intensify in 2010, aggravating human suffering.
Here is a selection of some of the under-reported humanitarian emergencies at risk of deteriorating this year. The list is by no means exhaustive nor is it any kind of ranking. |

 The UN Security Council has today passed a shameful resolution imposing sanctions against Eritrea. The unjustifiable measures imposed on Eritrea include: an arms embargo; the inspection and seizure by Member States in their territory of such cargo to and from Eritrea; and, the imposition of a travel ban, and the freezing of assets of, Eritrea’s political and military leadership who may be blacklisted by a Committee.

As the heads of State of the African Union (AU) convene, the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) wishes to note the continuing suffering of the people of Ogaden at the hands of the host nation of the ongoing AU summit. The Ethiopian regime has a well documented and systematic campaign of persecution against the people of Ogaden. 
The African Union met between the 25th of January till the 2nd of February for their 14TH
Mark Pritchard, Conservative MP for The Wrekin, opened a debate in Westminster Hall on regional security in the Horn of Africa. Ivan Lewis, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, responded to the debate. >>
Reports reaching the Ogaden Online News Desk confirm the burning down of the town of Budle, Shabelle province by the Woyane army. Eyewitnesses indicate that the Woyane militias first looted all valuables in the town. Prior to torching the town, the marauding Woyane militias also took two young girls with them. We couldn't confirm the names of the two young girls.
Reports reaching the Ogaden Online service desk from the city of Diridhaba in the province of Shiniile confirm the existence of a recent pitched battle that took place between the Tigrian People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) militias stationed in the area and the local citizenry.
Asmara 3 January, 2010: In continuation of the interview he conducted tonight with the national media outlets, President Isaias Afwerki underscored that the TPLF regime's ploy of dividing, weakening and sowing seeds of division among the Ethiopian people is a capital strategic error.
Eritrea says its forces have killed 10 Ethiopian soldiers during clashes in a border town. The Eritrean Information Ministry says soldiers from Ethiopia's TPLF party launched successive attacks on the town of Zalambesa January 1. It says the soldiers were driven back, with 10 killed, two others captured, and the loss of some weapons and equipment.
UNITED NATIONS — The U.N. Security Council has approved an arms embargo and other tough sanctions against Eritrea for supplying weapons to opponents of the Somali government and refusing to resolve a border dispute with neighboring Djibouti.
