Due to the failure of the "Gu" seasonal rains, the Ogaden is currently undergoing a severe drought the likes of which have not been witnessed for decades. The populations of Liiban, Afdheer, Shabelle, Qorahay and Wardheer provinces are experiencing severe strain due to lack of rains and drying water wells.

The Ethiopian regimes claims that 15 ONLF fighters were killed and others captured along with the two Swedish journalists targeted by the regime has no basis in reality. No ONLF forces have been killed in any engagement related to this incident nor are there any ONLF fighters in the regimes custody as a result of their attack on the two Swedish photojournalists.

ONLF have lost contact with two Swedish Photojournalists on their way to Ogaden from Puntland since July 1, 2011 and a pro-Ethiopian tabloid in Somali is reporting that The Ethiopian army arrested the two journalists, publishing their names and claiming that the Army killed some of their guides. ONLF also received a tip from sources inside the Puntland Administration that the Ethiopian Army was tipped by Puntland Security regarding the two journalists.

The Ogaden National Liberation front has transferred the two WFP staff members to WFP representatives near the border of Somalia on June 27 2011. For almost a month the Ethiopian Army and security forces has set up many obstacles in order to stop all attempts by ONLF to hand over the two staff members.

On the evening of 19 June 2011. ONLF Central Committee member Abdirahman Abdullaahi Muhumad (Sayid) was assassinated in Nairobi, Kenya by intelligence operatives of the TPLF regime currently in power in Ethiopia. Mr. Abdi Abdullaahi was unarmed and alone when Ethiopian intelligence agents fired several shots killing him instantly.

The Ethiopian Army has deployed since yesterday helicopter gunships and more than a division of its forces in the Ogaden in a bid to recapture and silence WFP workers liberated by ONLF on May 26 in Galalshe. The Liberation Army is doing its best to ensure that the WFP workers to be placed in safe and secure hands.

The Ogaden National Liberation Army of ONLF has captured the Town of Galalshe in Jigjiga Region near Babili. Causalities from the Meles Army (ENDF) were heavy and some remnants escaped to Babili town. ONLA captured armaments, ammunition, and logistics.

On the 7 May 2011, the Ethiopian Army in collaboration with local “special police” began carrying out a pogrom in the regions of Nogob (Fik) and Jarar (Degahbur) along the Fafan valley.

The Ogaden National Liberation Front intelligence service has ascertained that the Ethiopian (Meles ) Army conducted the killing and abduction of UN local staff in the Ogaden jointly with the notorious militia of the Somali Regional administration. Both were conducting kill on sight operations on civilians in the areas of the Fafan valley between Babili and Dhegahbur in the Ogaden.
